Sea Day

Throughout the day, EURODAM cruised serenely towards our port call in Jamaica tomorrow. There were lots of activities on board. Pam & I studiously avoided them.

As we approached the windward passage between Cuba and Haiti, more ships came into sight.

At 2:30, we were rounding the eastern tip of Cuba, looking through the haze at Baracoa, where Pam and I were on our 2015 trip to the island.

Baracoa has quite a colorful history. One of the things I remember most about it was that in a church, without any overt security, there was the only remaining cross that Christopher Columbus planted during his first exploration of the New World. There were 29 planted during his expedition. The authenticity of this one was solid.

People on cruises eat well. It is best to measure my laps around the deck in miles rather than steps when the ship is moving. Seeing that I've gone 4+ miles in fifteen minutes is so satisfying. It soothes my conscience, allowing me to say, "Yes, I'll have ice cream with my pie, thanks." Okay, that is a bold breakfast choice, but I did walk a mile in four minutes. Metrics don't lie.
